Gran Paradiso is the most bewitching and coveted destination of the
Valsavarenche, one of the four giants of the Valle d’Aosta with
Mont Blanc, Mont Rosa and Cervino. The Englishmen Cowell and Dundas
scaled it for the first time in 1860: Achille Ratti, the future Pio
XI climbed it in 1887.
In 1930 the Abbot Henry, priest, scholar and mountaineer reached
the peak with his donkey Cagliostro.
The call of this peak, its not excessive difficulty and the superb
panorama made it extremely popular and in 1884 the first shelter,
called Vittorio Emanuele II, was build at alt. 2,732 m.
The hotel’s name represents a long tradition of hospitality
started in the last century by the manager of the old shelter, continued
by his son who was the builder of the present shelter opened in
1932.
Completed after the war by active heirs and it became the Hostellerie
du Paradis were affective ties faithfully recreate environment and
atmosphere of the past.
